Education and Certification
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama in December 2011. I am currently a K-6 certified teacher in the state of Alabama and am working on becoming certified in the state of Mississippi. I am working towards my Masters Degree at the University of South Alabama in the School Counseling Education Program. Once I graduate in May 2014, I will apply for my School Counseling license in the states of Alabama and Mississippi. I also plan on taking the National Counselor Exam to become a Nationally Certified Counselor.
My Family
My family is an important part of my life. My dad is a Pastor in Birmingham, Alabama and my mom is a 3rd grade teacher. I have one sister and she is working towards her undergraduate degree at Union University in Special Education. After my sister and I both left for college four hours away, my parents began taking the steps to become Foster Parents through the Alabama Baptist Children's Home. I have been blessed with an amazing family and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
I am not married, but I am in a serious relationship with my boyfriend, Quentin. We have plans to get married when he graduates from the University of South Alabama in Secondary Education with a focus on Social Sciences in a few years. We also plan on having children of our own later down the road. I am thankful to have a wonderful man supporting me in all of my decisions.

Why I became a School Counselor
As young girls, my sister and I would always play school with my mom's old teachers manuals and supplies. The dream of becoming a teacher took root at a very young age as I was following closely in my mother's footsteps. Not only was my mother in a helping profession, but my father was as well. My dad was a Youth Minister throughout my childhood and followed his dream of becoming a Pastor when I was 15 years old. Obviously, after being raised by such loving parents, my sister and I both decided to seek degrees in the helping profession. While receiving my degree in Elementary Education, I was able to see the need for school counselors. After meeting my parents' first foster child, I felt called to become a school counselor. I was able to see the need for these students to receive effective counseling to get through this extremely difficult phase of their lives. I can't imagine what I would do if I was taken away from my family and placed with a family of strangers. I believe that the experiences with my foster brothers/sisters will allow me to empathize with students in a similar situation. I am early in my journey to becoming a school counselor, but I have enjoyed every minute and I know that I have chosen the right profession.
